Ndeeba Primary School

Where it all began.

Ndeeba Primary School is where the whole journey began! It was 2007 and Nikki was introduced to a lady called Rose. Rose had grown up in the area and now as a teacher, she wanted to give back to her community. She was struggling to keep them afloat. Most of the children could not afford to pay the school fees but she was so committed to running the school and providing these children with an education. This photo is of that original school, just a handful of shacks with 450 children. inside.

It was then that the most beautiful and wonderful friendship was formed and Nikki promised Rose that she would do her best to help her and to support the school to the best of her ability. Over the last 14 years this friendship has seen the some of the most epic highs and epic lows fighting to keep the school afloat. They call each other their rocks! Nikki could not have helped as many people as she has if it wasn’t for the support of Rose and vice versa!

When Nikki is not in Uganda, Rose is her eyes, ears and co-ordinator!

As of today, Ndeeba Primary School is still doing its very best and Nikki is still their number one ambassador! Gradually funds were raised to rebuild the school, in fact it has been rebuilt around 4 times to what it is today!

Prior to covid the school was beginning to really thrive but Covid hit it hard just like so many projects around the world and right now it feels like we have gone back about 10 years, but as always we will never give up and are forging forward with our ‘covid recovery plan’

At the moment we have 280 enrolled as many children and families fled to the villages when Covid hit. Over the years we have funded so many projects associated with the school, from school uniform, to sports kit and equipment, to desk, flooring, roofing, musical instruments, food, teachers salary, clean water provisions, electricity and so much more!

As you can imagine with a school with so many children there are always ongoing maintenance costs and upkeep, but knowing that the children of that community are able to come to a school that will keep them safe, feed them and educate them is what is the most important.

The school is our HQ, from where we run all our projects.

Our biggest challenge right now.

Our current challenge at the school, aside from general maintenance costs is food. For many of our children that one meal they have at school may be the only meal they eat that day. Post covid so many families have been unable to pay school fees and yet we are committed to keeping the school afloat and the kids educated. But with everything there are expenses including paying the teachers their salaries. So for 2023 we made a pledge to raise the money the feed all the children for the whole year, to take the pressure off of Rose to find the money from fees that currently aren’t available. Just like everyone around the world, there is recovery happening everywhere including amongst our parents and so we are confident that from 2024, the fees will be back enough to purchase the food.

We would be so very grateful and happy if we can know that our kids will have their meals covered for the whole of 2023.

£21 will provide a child at our school with a school meal for the whole school year.

We have 2 terms covered for 2023, but we are still need to reach our target for the final Term 3.
